Golden Delights: Mashed Potato Balls

Potatoes have been a staple in diets around the world for centuries, and for good reason. Contrary to some misconceptions, potatoes, when prepared and consumed wisely, can be a valuable addition to a balanced diet. 

The problem with potatoes

According to Dr. Michael Greger, the trouble with with potatoes started in 2006, and you can estimate that its probably because potatoes mostly consumed as french fries or chips. What is surprising is that they found the same link when potatoes are baked or mashed. And that because of its high GI, it raises our blood sugar. And clearly, from my previous blogs you would know that we need to give our body a break from constant raise of insulin and glucose. 

However, variety is one of the keys to healthy living, and elimination isn’t going to solve the problem. So enjoying some wouldn’t be a big deal. As long as it is away from being processed and preserved. Know how can potatoes be a good addition in our diet on “are potatoes bad for us?

Mashed Crispy Potato Balls

Potato balls are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack that are perfect for any occasion. They are made with mashed potatoes that are mixed with various ingredients, formed into balls, and then fried until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can be innvative on the ingredients you want to use to flavor the potato balls
Once fried, the potato balls can be served hot and crispy with your favorite dipping sauce. Making potato balls is a great way to use up leftover mashed potatoes, and they can also be made ahead of time and frozen for a quick and easy snack or appetizer whenever you need it.

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer Optional

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Potato medium size
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Cilantro chopped
  • 1-2 tsp Salt
  • 1-2 tsp Red Pepper
  • 1-2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1-2 tsp Paprika
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Bread Cumps
  • 1 Egg
  • Olive Oil

Instructions
 

  • Cut the potatoes to random cut and add it in a pot to boil
  • When ready, in a bowel mash the potato, and mix it with butter and cheddar cheese and mix
  • Add your spices
  • Then add the cilantro, and give it a good mix
  • Shape into balls
  • Dip it in the egg and then flour and bread crumps. (For more flavor, add the spices in the bread cumps and flour)
  • Fry it and enjoy it with your favorite dipping!!

Notes

Here are some notes for making potato balls:
  1. You can add whatever you want in your mashed potatoes
  2. You can use air fryer instead of frying.
  3. You can use oats for coating instead of flour!!

  2. These look delicious. Such a great idea for using left over mashed potatoes. (I may be planning to cook mashed potatoes tonight just so I have some left overs to try this now!)
